 The Value of a Mother

I am so thankful that we can take this time to honor all mothers.  By the direction of the Holy Spirit I am dedicating this article to our mothers on this Special Day.  A day that our country has set aside to honor that Special Lady in our lives, called “Mothers”.  You will find in the book of Proverbs 31: 10 the Amplified Bible says, “A capable, intelligent, and virtuous woman – who is he who can find her?  She is far more precious than jewels, and HER VALUE is far above

rubies or pearls.”

You will notice that the Word of God has placed a significant value on the virtuous woman (which includes mothers).  The writer of this proverb is highlighting that a woman of this caliber is not cheap.  She is blessed, the bearer of life, she sees to it that the next generation of human beings, are born into this world.  She is not a lazy woman.  This woman is one who is a great Helper to her husband and a wonderful mother to her children.

This mother is multi-talented, and very good at all of them.  She is a nurturer; the first teacher of her children; submissive to her husband, loves the Lord and reverence her husband, and is chaste.   This mother is a praying mother.  She gets up early and stays up late.  She makes sure everything is orderly in the home; and she cooks the best meals there is.  I can certainly say that the character traits I just mentioned describe the mothers in this congregation.

Now let’s go a little further.  There are several Scriptures in the Bible that commands and exhorts us to honor this valuable woman in our lives.

 Ephesians 6: 2, 3

2 Honor thy father and thy mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)

3 That it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest live long on the earth.

In the book of Exodus chapter 20:12, we can read for ourselves, how our heavenly father wrote it with His finger in stone, and made it one of the ten commandments, that we must honor father and mother, and obedience to this commandment brings with it a promise of long life.

The word “honor” is unique in itself.  It means to place in high esteem, to respect, to treat with reverence, expression of admiration, and tribute that conveys respect.  So you can easily see that the Lord wants and expects us to treat our mothers with high regards - as someone valuable.

My dear friends go out of your way today and do something special for your mother and also for your wife, the mother of your children.  It doesn’t have to be a gourmet meal at a fine restaurant to say Thank You Mom.  It takes only a sincere expression from our hearts.

In closing, remember this, don’t wait until next Mother’s Day to honor your mother and your wife because everyone else is doing it, or it is the seasonal thing to do.  But as the Pastor of this congregation, I exhort you to honor these valuable women in your life, your mother and your wife, the mother of your children all the time.

“Happy Mother’s Day To All Our Mothers!”

Your Pastor

Word of Today: "I Came To Serve "

Jesus said in Matthew 20: 28 (NIV)  “I came to serve, not to be served.”  That was the blunt profound declaration Jesus made to His  disciples one day.  Here we have the greatest man who ever lived, God’s own Son, proclaiming the essence of His leadership style.  He led by serving can you?
