Message: Mother's Day
In 1912, Anna Jarvis trademarked the phrases "Second Sunday in May" and "Mother's Day", and she created the Mother's Day International Association. She was specific about the position of the apostrophe; it was to be a singular possessive, for each family to honor their own mother, not a plural possessive commemorating all mothers in the world. Isn’t it wonderful that our kind and loving heavenly Father would use someone to make it official for Mothers to be recognized and honored in a special way on a special day? Without a mother, no person would be in this world; so, regardless of the status of our mothers, we must and need to honor them. Many years ago women wore a corsage on Mother’s Day with the different colors that represented her mother’s status—it was an honor and a tribute. The enemy uses people to down play a very special event in history to where it could be just another day blown off. Let us pick up the torch and enjoy it for what it really is—a day to be blessed by God because we chose to honor our Mothers.
In Ephesians 6:1-3 it says, “Children obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honor thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise); that it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.” Mothers are special to God, and it is so amazing to me how Jesus (during His agony and suffering on Calvary) recognized the need His dear mother had and committed her to John, His beloved disciple. In John 19:26-27 it says, “When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple standing by, whom He loved, He saith unto His mother, Woman, behold thy son! Then saith He to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.” Jesus was aware of the void His mother felt as she watched Him suffer knowing she no longer had Him as her Son. Jesus immediately turned her attention to John who was standing there for immediate comfort and strength, and He said to her in reference to John, “Here is your son…” He also wanted John to be aware of his newfound mother. Mary had no time to think of being alone.
Now if we look closely at this situation, we can say God is always on time. Jesus filled in the blanks of His mother’s life with giving her John the beloved disciple as her son. A mother’s life has some interesting turns and if we will allow Him, Jesus will fill in all the blanks. It doesn’t matter what it is. Some people are plagued with loneliness or feel abandoned, and it didn’t come from God. Every person in the universe has felt this way at some time or another, but when we look at Jesus’ life He said in John 8:29, “And He that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please Him.” This scripture has been my help many, many times. When loneliness tries to overcome me, I remember what Jesus said, and the Holy Spirit ministers to me so sweetly. Mothers, let’s remember we are never alone, and Jesus is touched with a mother’s heart. We have favor with the King!!!
The Lord has set aside this time for Mothers to be honored throughout the world; every business profits from such an occasion. Enjoy your day.
