How to Grow in Love Part
Jesus fulfilled the Old Testament Law and gave the New Testament Church one new commandment: To Love
The Word of God instructs us how to fulfill this commandment and how to grow in the God-kind of love.
1 THESSALONIANS 3: 12
And the Lord make you to increase and abound IN LOVE one toward another, and toward all men, as we do toward you.
God desires for you to grow in your love walk. You must understand that the God-kind of love is something that you grow in; it doesn’t just happen. Love grows when it is cultivated, much like a garden grows. In a garden, you have to take care of the plants, or they won’t grow properly.
Have you ever planted tomatoes? Do you just go outside, stick the tomato seeds into the ground, walk off, and leave them until harvest time? No, you take care of those tomato seeds by watering them and doing all the things that are necessary to produce a good tomato crop.
If tomatoes or any other plants are going to grow properly and become what they should be, they have to be taken care of and cultivated. In much the same way, if the God-kind of love is within you (Romans 5: 5) is ever going to develop, it is going to have to be taken care of and cultivated. In other words, there are certain things you can do to help your love grow.
Number one: In order to grow in love, you must THINK WITH LOVE.
Philippians 4: 8
Whatsoever things are LOVELY … of good report … THINK on THESE THINGS.
When it comes to thinking the proper thoughts, many people are negligent. Instead of thinking on things that are lovely, it’s easier for them to dwell on thoughts such as, “I’m this way because of what happened to me – because of what someone else did to me.” For them, it’s much easier to blame somebody else for their present situation than it is to do something about getting themselves out of that situation.
It may be somebody else’s fault that you’re in the position you’re in, but it’s your fault if you remain there! God has given you the power, the ability, and the authority to rise above those circumstances that caused the problem in the first place.
You’ve got to change how you think. To increase your love, you must replace negative thoughts with positive thoughts. Study the Word of God, and replace the negative thoughts with Scripture.
I am going to stop here for today. I trust the Lord that you will find this subject timely and informative. We will study this together; and do you know what? Our love walk will increase beyond measure. Please join me next week as we move forward in this important lesson.
Word for Today: " Person of Action"
If you have faith you will be a Person of Action. In the book of James we’re told that “faith” without corresponding action is dead. No one wants to follow someone who is all talk. But people will follow a Person of Action every time. My question of the day for you is, “Do the people around you see you as a doer – A Person of Action?”
