Jesus fulfilled the Old Testament Law and gave the New Testament Church one new commandment:
The Word of God instructs us how to fulfill this commandment and how to grow in the God-kind of love.
1 THESSALONIANS 3: 12
And the Lord make you to increase and abound IN LOVE one toward another, and toward all men, as we do toward you.
Glory to God everybody. Thank God we can gather around the powerful Word of God today to study this marvelous subject: “How To Grow In Love.”
Well, last week we studied the fifth thing we could do to grow in the God-kind of Love. Today we will move on to Number Six. The Sixth and final thing we can do to make our Love Grow is “WALK IN LOVE!”
EPHESIANS 5: 1 – 2
1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;
2 And WALK IN LOVE, as Christ also hath loved us, and HATH GIVEN HIMSELF for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour.
To walk in love as Paul describes it, is to give of yourself, so that others can be blessed.
For example, many people will give to food pantries and clothing drives, which is good. But very often people only give their junk! That’s not walking in love. A general guideline to follow is: if you would not use it, don’t give it to somebody else! When you walk in love, you give your very best – you give yourself.
Paul said, we are to walk in love as Christ loved us and gave Himself for us. Jesus gave His life for you. What have you given him? Through God’s Word we see that love is everything; you are nothing without love
(1 Corinthians 13: 1-8).
God has placed a high value on love. God wants you to grow in love, and He has given you His Word to instruct you on how to cultivate the God-kind of love in your life and how to bear much fruit.
Just as you would cultivate a garden in order for it to grow, you must continue to cultivate love if you want it to grow. You must cultivate it so that your heart does not become hardened. Make sure there is nothing in you that will drain the strength of the love that you have planted or that is going to choke the life out of the love that is in your heart.
Continue to give your seeds of love everything they need, and it will grow. When you put these principles into action in your life, you will begin to grow in the God-kind of Love, and you will bear much fruit, and God will be glorified.
Word for Today: Confidence
Proverbs 3: 26 say, “For the Lord will be your “CONFIDENCE” and will keep your foot from being caught.” The Hebrew word that translates “Confidence” comes from a root word that means foolish. Some people consider bold action foolishness and mistake Confidence for arrogance. That’s what happened when young David chose to take on a giant named Goliath. And you know how that Story ended. God’s Word for everyone today is “HAVE CONFIDENCE!” Do you have it?
