Happy Father’s Day
Children, obey your parents; this is the right thing to do because God has placed them in authority over you. Honor your father and mother. This is the first of God’s Ten Commandments that ends with a promise. And this is the promise: that if you honor your father and mother, yours will be a long life, full of blessing. Eph 6:1-3, TLB
My father died when I was eight years old. He was a military man, so my interaction with him was little; I saw him occasionally. I always thought of my father as a good man. I have never thought anything negative about him; and I praise God for the love of God flowing through me (even now) for a man I never really knew very well. I love celebrating Father’s Day; particularly since I am born again, I appreciate what our Father God has revealed to me through His Word by His Spirit.
What is the role of the father? Without fathers there would be no children to obey their parents, so the purpose of the father is to mate with his wife—be fruitful and multiply. In addition to multiplying, he needs to be an unwavering supporter in resources and be a strong leader. God designed families, and He knows how to help the father fulfill his role. Our great heavenly Father is filled with wisdom for all areas of our lives. The Bible tells us:
When I think of the wisdom and scope of His plan, I fall down on my knees and pray to the Father of all the great family of God—some of them already in heaven and some down here on earth. Eph 3:14-15 TLB.
Adam came from God, and we came from Adam, but our nature has been changed. The new nature makes us love each other even when it seems difficult. Fathers are not to provoke their children, but train them to be obedient and respectful. I really believe this is easy when the father is obeying our heavenly Father, so the son can see the example his father is displaying and follow suit.
I have learned so much from my husband who is a gift from God to me. He is a wonderful father and a good example of what a godly father should be. In fact, his example is what our daughters desire and expect out of their husbands. My husband is quick to tell you he was not always like this, but when he accepted Jesus as his Savior, his heart changed. Through this change, he wanted everything God had to offer to include being a godly father. Listen to your heart fathers; hear our heavenly Father speaking to you to make corrections in your life that will bring fruit to your marriage and family.
Finally, be blessed this Father’s Day with God’s best.
