When Jesus commissioned the Church, He didn’t expect His followers to minister to the world and deal with the tactics of Satan without His powerful help.

The Gift of the Spirit

So the Holy Spirit gave gifts to the Church to empower believers to reign in life!

But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.    -1 Corinthians 12:7

First Corinthians chapter 12 list nine manifestations of the Spirit called the gifts of the Spirit.  In other words, these are the nine ways in which the Holy Ghost works or manifests Himself.

The Apostle Paul calls them “Manifestations” we call them “gifts” because in a general sense, anything that is given is considered a gift.  Actually, they are nine gifts of the Spirit that belongs to the Church, which are manifested through individuals as the Spirit wills.

1 Corinthians 12: 8-10

8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;

9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;

10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:

Now, let’s look at verse 11.

1 Corinthians 12:11

11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he wills.

Paul teaches that every one of the gifts of the Spirit works by the one and self same Spirit.  So, we need to learn to work with Him.

We divide these nine manifestations because they naturally fall into three different categories.  We call them the first group “revelation” gifts or revelation manifestations – because they reveal something.

The revelation gifts are the word of wisdom, the word of knowledge, and the discerning of spirits.

We divide another three of these manifestations into the category of the “power” gifts – because they do something.  The power gifts are special faith, the working of miracles, and the gifts of healings.

Then we call the last three of these manifestations the “vocal” gifts or “inspirational” gifts – because they say something.  The vocal gifts are prophecy, divers kinds on tongues, and the interpretation of tongues

And all these according to 1 Corinthians 12:11, “… worketh that one and selfsame Spirit…” – because that’s the way He works.

I am excited about this series.  I am sure something will be said that will help you to get a better handle in the understanding of this subject.  Well, until next time may God’s blessings be yours.

Word for Today: "Invisible Sheild of Faith"

 How would you like to find goodwill, acceptance, and consideration everywhere you go?  The Bible calls that “favor.” For some people, the doors of opportunity always seem to swing wide open, the Bible calls that favor.  In Psalms 5: 12 says, “For surely, O Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield” (NIV).  Imagine carrying around an invisible shield of goodwill where ever you go.
