The Gift of the Spirit Part 7

When Jesus commissioned the Church, He didn’t expect His followers to minister to the world and deal with the tactics of Satan without His powerful help.

So the Holy Spirit gave gifts to the Church to empower believers to reign in life!

But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.    -1 Corinthians 12:7

Praise the Lord precious Saints of the Living God.  I certainly thank God for each of you.  I thank God for a brand new month, and I thank God for this glorious day, because this is the day that the Lord has made and I will rejoice and be glad in it.  It is a great blessing to come together on one accord around the Word of God and watch Him unfold His very truth before our eyes.

Today, I will conclude this segment on the subject of “The Gifts of the Spirit.”  Last week I stopped at the point where we were just getting into the discussion about the gift of the word of knowledge in manifestation in the life of Ananias as recorded in Acts 9:10-12.  So, let’s go ahead and pick it up where we left off.

The Lord gave Ananias a word of knowledge through a vision.  Sometimes it works that way.  Let me remind you that the word of knowledge that the Lord gave Ananias had to do with the present tense.  God gave Ananias the revelation that Saul was praying and even showed Ananias where Saul was.

Additionally, the Holy Ghost gave Ananias a word of wisdom which points to the future.  The Lord told Ananias to go lay his hand on Saul, who was praying.  But Ananias objected to it and said, “I’ve heard about the havoc this fellow has wrought in the church at Jerusalem and he had letters in his possession giving him authority to do it” (vv. 13, 14).

So the Holy Ghost gave Ananias a word of wisdom saying, “…he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel: for I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name sake” (vv. 15, 16).  The Holy Ghost was pointing to the future.

Now, here is something we need to notice.  Evidently, Ananias was at home praying when the Lord appeared to him in a vision.  And many times, people might think Spiritual gifts aren’t operating when they’re not in manifestation in the public assembly.  But as you go through the Old Testament, you’ll find out that many of those miracles and supernatural things that happened didn’t manifest in the public assembly.

As I said, over the years that I pastored, we’ve had the manifestation of the gift of the word of wisdom and the word of knowledge both in church services as well as at home.

Praise God, we always want to thank God for wherever His gifts are manifested.  And they ought to be more frequently manifested.  But unless we teach and preach about the Holy Spirit’s gifts, folks won’t know about them, and they won’t earnestly desire them.  But, thank God, now we know better.  God bless you, and have a wonderful week.

Word for Today:  "Word of Life"

In the Gospel of Matthew Jesus said, “We are justified by our words, or, we are condemned by our words.”  They can bring either happiness or deepest despair; they can transfer knowledge from teacher to student.  The Bible describes the power of words more succinctly when it says, “The power of life and death are in the tongue.”  Our words impact everyone.  Question, “Are you maximizing the effectiveness as a leader by choosing words of life?”
