Dear fellow believers, this time of year the Christmas story will be told countless times
as people commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ. But sad to say, few have ever heard the entire story of Christmas – a message so Wonderful, so timeless, it ought to be proclaimed all year around!
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called “Wonderful…”
Isaiah prophesied by the Spirit of God concerning the coming of the Messiah and the birth of Jesus, saying, “His Name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.” But I just want to take the word “Wonderful” from the text to illuminate through the story of Christmas that Jesus is Wonderful.
As we think about this particular season of the year, we acknowledge the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ. And certainly, Jesus was Wonderful in every way. His Conception was Wonderful. The announcement of His birth was Wonderful. His childhood and ministry were Wonderful; so were His death and resurrection. And He’ll still be Wonderful when He comes again!
You see, if the story of Christmas just ended with Jesus’ birth, then there would be no plan of salvation. You must look at the life of Jesus from the beginning to the end – because all of it is connected to Christmas, and all of it reveals just how Wonderful Jesus is!
Now, I said first of all that Jesus was Wonderful in the announcement and conception of His birth. Let’s read the account of
these events in the Gospel according to Luke.
Luke 1:26, 27, 30, 31
26 And in the sixth month THE ANGEL GABRIEL WAS SENT FROM GOD unto
a city of Galilee, named Nazareth.
27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David;
and the virgin’s name was Mary.
30 And THE ANGEL SAID UNTO HER, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favor with God.
31 And BEHOLD, THOU SHALT
CONCEIVE IN THY WOMB, and BRING FORTH A SON, and SHALT CALL HIS NAME JESUS.
The very announcement that Jesus was to be born was Wonderful; an angel came down from Heaven to proclaim it. But how was this conception going to take place? How was it possible that a virgin would conceive and bring forth a son? Notice what the angel said.
35 And, the angel answered … THE HOLY GHOST SHALL COME UPON THEE, AND THE POWER OF THE HIGHEST SHALL OVERSHADOW THEE: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
Dearly beloved, I thank God that we can rehearse the Wonderful story of Jesus with great appreciation and expectation. I am so grateful that our Lord has graced me to tell His Wonderful story one more time. We will continue this story next week. Until then, God bless you.
Word for Today: Loyalty
To achieve success and increase in any Church or ministry there is always one key element present that worth its weight in gold. That rare element is “Loyalty!” Loyalty cannot be reproduced in an assembly line. As a matter of fact, loyalty cannot be artificially formulated because it is from the heart. It grows only where and when it is planted and watered often. Like the Bible says, “Like begets like!” And we reap only what we sow. Loyalty cannot be demanded. It can only be earned. If you want those you lead or associate with to be loyal to you, you must be loyal to them.
